Mohawk styling

The transformations have continued!  After giving Seian a Mohawk and a dress made from a lost leather glove I decided to see what Banshee and Venus would look like with Mohawks.

 

The neat part about all this was taking the photos to tell a story about our hair madness episode on the website.  The girls are really very pose-able and fun to play with! 

So here's Banshee with her blue Mohawk being admired by Seian.

 

And here's Venus with a multi-colored pink and black one. 

 

I think the long wigs look better on both girls, but Seian can pull off anything.  The question is, what will cause folks to stop and look at what's on my table at the doll show next month??

Les Fluffy Femmes Fatale

My three ladies... Lady Teah with her dragon companion are relatively new but Sri Lanka the Bellydancer and Giselle the French Maid have been with me a long while.  It's a weird science to try and determine the desires of collectors and an even weirder science to try and explain what gets adopted and why.  Still, while Sri Lanka gets interested suitors and everyone laughs with Giselle (and she has one of the most beautiful noses I ever stitched), they are still here with me.  So, time for a radical change-up!  Partially inspired by my acceptance into the Cambridge Maple Leaf Doll Show (this Sept. 15th) and largely inspired by the fact that the crazier the costume the faster they find homes, we agreed that going Goth was a good choice!

My three ladies... so here they are stripped to almost nothing (Giselle was a bit shy).  Unfortunately, as I was working on Lady Teah I managed to break a glass eye, bugger!!!  So since I had to get her a new pair I tried out all kinds and you know what looked great?  Demon red!  Here they are, Lady Teah, Sri Lanka and Giselle.

 

It was fun and cathartic in a way to re-model these girls, to take them from a stagnant image and rework their looks and characters to revitalize and bring them to live again! 

So let me introduce you to Demonia, Banshee and Venus!  Demonia now has a red spider for a companion and wears a vinyl catsuit with a high collar and hip-high laced up boots, Banshee had her curly locks straightened and sports a faux-leather bodice, lacy mini skirt and net choker.  Venus traded in her red hair and now is a bleached blonde with pink tips, wearing a faux leather and fur patterned bodice and laced hot pants with thigh high vinyl boots banded just below the knee with cross and loop detailing.  All three sport a lot of jewelry!

Now I get to play with her wig and costuming, which is a lot of fun! 

Currently I have 11 wigs so I thought to try them all on her and see which works best.

Overall I think she has a pretty face and it's to her credit that all the wigs look okay!

In process...

I'm working on my calico catfish lady cat, here are her arms, and here is her head!  It took a while to get the face to look nice, the white gusset demanded that the brown chin line up PERFECTLY, so quite a bit of tweaking went on before it looked straight.

I'm excited to announce that I've been accepted to show at the Greater Toronto Doll Show in Oakville on April 28th, so I am busy sewing!  Hope you can make it there, it should be grand! 

Busy weekend!

Since we're already into February, I decided I had to put the quilling away and get to some pieces for the doll show I hope to be doing in April.  But first I created a few different bat designs:

Then I pulled out a project I started last summer: the cat-fish.  This is a lady cat who originally was going to be transformable from a mermaid to a cat lady, with legs that could be interchanged with a tail.  While a neat idea, I don't think anyone would be willing to pay the price for the piece and store the body parts that weren't in use, so I scrapped it.  Instead, she's going to be a cat in a mermaid costume, inspired by Cher's mermaid costume from the movie "Mermaids".  I'm particularly looking forward to making the head-dress, which could incorporate some quilling elements and perhaps paper mache.  First, though, the cat and here are her two tattoos:  on one leg, near the heel, there's a multi-colored fish while on an inside wrist there is the same fish only now it's a skeleton!  Well, she is a cat! 

 

In other news, we made brioche today, using that super duper yeast!  Yes, it worked incredibly well again and these spinach-bacon-Vodka a la creme brioche are very yummy!  We accidentally forgot to include the cheese, so we ate it on the side.  This dough is so fluffy and tasty we're going to use it with apples, nuts and cinnamon to make a sweet treat.

My brioche don't look as tidy as these, more like volcanic brains! 

Lady Teah is ready and waiting for her dragon friend!

Her strawberry blond mohair is perfectly paired with the multi-green silky fabric and shimmery gold fabric, embellished with beads, jewelry findings and ribbon leaves. The dress includes a small leather waist cincher, with multi-colored ribbon ties in the front and back. She has an arm brace for her dragon friend to rest upon, and in her other hand she carries blue faery dust in a glass vial. Of course she wears two pairs of earrings, golden loops and green crystal studs.

The pair will debut at the London Doll Show on April 29th.

She's got legs!

Although she can't use them, yet. Tomorrow hopefully her arms will be attached and all her limbs stuffed and sewn shut. Then her body needs to be stuffed and sewn, and her breasts added on and she'll be born... okay, maybe NEXT weekend. Still, there's been good progress, her feet are beautifully shaped with lovely green claws and I've learned a lot listening to the book on tape "The Mind's Eye" by Oliver Sacks. Wow, our eyes and the way our brains process what we see is far more complicated, individual and wondrous than ever imagined!

good intentions

So, the Moulin Rouge dancing girl actually was conceived 2 years ago... and has been waiting ever since. In 2008 (the Year of the Rat), Mom and I visited Paris in May (see my web presentation at http://pages.total.net/~weric/paris.htm) and the posters caught my eye... what a gorgeous costume, all crystal beads and feathers!

So I purchased a wig and shoes from Monique, although this would require a miniaturization of my 15in lady bear as the wig's largest available size (at that time) was 2 sizes smaller than what I normally use, to say nothing of the petite feet!

And that's where the project sputtered to a halt. I definitely want to include the poster as a backdrop and a mirror, if possible. Perhaps a rich, velvet curtain... ah, the ideas! In November I did manage to scan and shrink the pattern...

So what comes next? I need to test the head pattern to make sure the wig will fit, and decide what color fur she should be created in!
