Hallowe'en Howl

 

The Autumn colors were lovely this year and a little late so the colors stayed almost until Hallowe'en, which was a treat.

Decorations seemed a bit lacking this year, or subdued even at houses that go all-out.

But there were some great ones!  Hi Sam!

We visited Elora and thoroughly enjoyed the weather and the Twilight Zoo invading the village, along with a giant Jack Skellington!

Hallowe'en night proved to be a little less friendly, with a downpour and rain from 6:30-7:30, just when the trick or treaters were out!  They were soaked, and yet they came:  in the end we had 72 soggy souls!

Our yard looked good, even though we didn't set up the cemetery and the extras.  

We ended the scary season with a lovely Day of the Dead altar.

Unexpectedly, though, this wasn't the end as we stumbled upon the Pumpkin Parade when attending a fibre event at the Museum on November 2nd.  The pumpkins had not yet been cleared away so we got to enjoy all the creative and creepy pumpkins!

October bliss

 How I love October!  But it all comes to an end so quickly...

It was a lovely month, with the trees looking particularly beautiful this year.  And we saw some great Hallowe' en displays!!  

But the best was visiting the pumpkin patch on Hwy 89!  The MacAndrews Pumpkin Farm is always a must-do for Hallowe 'en but this year we arrived just as the goats and sheep were being treated to pumpkins!  Wow!   

Oh my gosh!!!  Were they ever cute!!

We got some lovely pie pumpkins for soup-in-a-pumpkin.

And their carved pumpkins were masterpieces!

I also spotted the creatures in the tree behind their house, really fun!

Better late...

  

I was inspired by this picture... long before Hallowe'en.  Isn't it lovely, all the colorful pumpkins!  And I decided back in May that I would love to create a cascade of pumpkins like this (with some Jack o'Lanterns of course).

(Sadly I don't know where I found this image, I think it was Facebook but maybe not.  If you know the artist, please tell me and I'd love to give credit.)

It started out pretty well:  I made three sweet Jack o'Lanterns.  

And then... let's just say I got distracted.

After Hallowe'en I finally got back to my pumpkins.  (See the snow in the background?)

At this point I have 8 finished pieces.  You can tell which were the first ones, my vine-y stems have gotten better and better with practice.  The green pumpkin is my best yet, I think!

October comfort

 October is here!  And so are many seasonal harvest treats, like pumpkins!  

Here's one of my favorites, Soup in a Pumpkin.  Super easy, and you get to practice cleaning out a few pumpkins before you do your Hallowe'en Jack o Lanterns.
